As a CG artist my work is based around the world of 3D Modeling and tablet painting on high end computer systems. I use the latest software of the movie and game special effects industry.
The example at right is that of a World War II British Spitfire. Every element of a picture is made up of models like this be they a plane, ship. building or person. Plants, trees, rocks even water are all objects or surfaces as you see in these white wireframe images. While they are nothing more then electronic files on a screen, a CG artist is able to more, alter, position one with another, or inside another as the pilot is here, and finally texture map and paint the outside of the items. Just like the studios developing "Toy Story", "Cars", or "The 300", 3d modeling allows the artist unlimited creativity in developing the best composition to achieve the desired effects. Atmosphere is also controlled and altered by software to achieve the lighting, weather, time of day or night desired and envisioned by the CG artist.
During the final stages I paint in additional details using a pen and a tablet which you can see on the next page.
Modern CG allows for the integration of video or film. Imagine being integrated into the scene, in the battle, on shipboard, or flying these old warbirds.
Working directly from photography, or as a multilayer composite, CG also allows for the creation of that timeless portrait on canvas as you see here with the Kansas lady in the straw hat.
As you already know, today anything is possible visually for the modern CD artist.
